Our Low Energy Heritage is a project that started in the London Borough of Sutton and was supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.
It has gathered stories and experiences of older people living in the borough during times when energy was not so available or so cheap. The aim of the project is to record these stories so that we can use their knowledge, skills and experiences to help us, and future generations, tackle issues such as climate change and an increasingly expensive, less plentiful energy supply.
Although we now benefit from modern technology such as solar panels, wind turbines and improved insulation, there is much we could usefully learn from the older generation about living with less. These skills, along with the new technologies, can help us to create low energy communities in the future with a good standard of living and a quality of life perhaps better than today.
